SciFi 5th edition experiment part 3 fun with Aliens
A few things. First, you can find my earlier posts on this Science Fiction 5e thread here, and here. Second, let me know if you like these. I will keep writing them if people are getting anything out of them. Third, sorry it took a day or two longer to get this out. Writing races is not as exciting and writing classes. I also had some other issues going on, but real life is like that some times. I did briefly consider doing my own artwork for these, but remembered I am not a great artist.

Science Fiction Game in 5th edition part 2 The Problems of Setting
So, I started out with the notion of making a 5th edition Scifi game. This was spurred by the idea of exploring what you can do with the 5th edition system framework. All fun and games, until you realize how much work it can be. Oh well, we continue the madness. The problems with setting The question of game design is one of experience. What stories are the players going to have here? What experiences do you want them to have? The original role-playing games, proto-D&D and its ilk, were extensions of war games. They were changed because the players wanted a different experience from what they were finding in the…

An idea for a scifi game using 5th edition part 1
Not the sexiest title, I know, but bear with me. I recently had an opportunity to read and review the Adventures in Middle Earth RPG for the Tome Show. This was something I would have read anyway, but reviewing it allows me to change perspective a bit more. One of the things that struck me about the game was the versatility of 5th edition. They made significant changes to core class concepts and it was still very much 5th edition. It started me thinking about how far you could take that. Could I use the base 5th editions systems, but make a game divorced from the fantasy setting?

Weekly Comics Show Round up
It is that time again. Time for another round-up of comic book shows.. Let’s start with Gotham. It still feels like the show is rushing along too fast. We have full on supervillains all over the place. The Riddler is exposed, complete with his signature question mark, and promptly arrested. He may not be sporting the outfit, but his basic motif is there. Same with the Penguin, who goes back to his villainous ways. Dinner with Cobblepot is the reality show no one is asking for. If anything, he is more brutal than ever. This would be great if Batman existed yet, but at this point it all feels…

More Superhero Round up, guest staring Daredevil
It has been a few weeks since I last did one of these, so I may run a bit longer than some of my previous round ups. Why so long between postings? Well, Daredevil dropped, and Batman V Superman, plus I had some health issues. It was hard to keep up. Also, I didn’t want to talk about Daredevil till I watched the whole run. Let’s start with the ones I watch all the time.

Batman VS Superman
Non-spoiler review in brief. I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate Batman V Superman, either. There were pieces of a good movie that never seemed to come together to become anything more. It also felt like it should have been a couple of films. There are too many plot threads to form a consistent theme, or point to the story. I liked Ben Affleck as Batman. I think his performance as Batman was actually better than Christian Bale. It is just Christian Bale was paired with a better film maker. This Batman is much more Frank Miller inspired, but back when he was still good Frank Miller, and hadn’t…

More Comics Shows Round Up
So, Gotham….This was the episode I was waiting for since the beginning of this series. Seriously, this was why you set a show in Gotham. Not for Batman, or the Joker, or all the freaks. You set a story in Gotham because it is a crucible that makes those kind of people. You make a show like this to see people like Matches Malone, and how they make the world around them, and are made by the world in turn. Also, my world was lacking in enough Lori Petty. She is amazing in this. In the bar scene and the music playing, they played scenes of Jerome on the wall…

Comic Book show weekly round up.
Lucifer was a solid episode. The story around the divine elements were the focus and the murder mystery was the background mystery this time. I sort of saw through the overall plot in last episode, but the execution was well done, so I don’t mind the telegraphing. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D are back. It was a solid if not a really inspired episode. I would like it to shake things up and make interesting choices. Instead, it seems to be drifting on the formula it has. Not a bad formula, but I am not as excited by it. Gotham was okay. Didn’t blow me away, and it had some nice bits,…

Why WordPress?
Why WordPress? Because I am lazy. Not really, but it sounded funny. Let me explain.
